Qualified Life Coach

I’ve qualified! After 6 months of intense study in my free time, 6 away days, 121 hours of contact time, applying the learning during coaching sessions, mentoring discussions and practical assessments, I’ve done it! I’m a qualified Life Coach (with a distinction)!

This post is pretty late in coming as I actually qualified back in November, but with house moving and preparing for travelling around various countries in early 2019, writing about it has been down in my priorities.

Now, on the cusp of a great adventure around Asia (and perhaps beyond), I thought I’d announce it!

So, this year, as well as eventually becoming a Chartered Engineer, I’ve also qualified as a Life Coach. I am exhausted. Fortunately, I’ve had some time over Christmas to relax a little before heading off on the next adventure where I hope to put this new set of skills into practice!

I just want to say a big thanks to the excellent trainers, mentors and assessors at The Coaching Academy as well as my clients who have worked with me through the training. I look forward to continuing working with you all in the future (and thanks for the Testimonials).

For those of you who haven’t experienced Coaching, you may be wondering what qualifies me to be a Life Coach; I’m hardly Richard Branson, Anthony Joshua, or any other huge success story. So, what is it that I offer? The best answer can be found here – On my website. But for those who need an instant fix, simply know that I ask open, non-leading questions. Their purpose changes during a session, but overall, they help the Client to define their ideals, then figure out how to achieve them. I do not provide advice or guidance.

You may now be thinking ‘what use is simply asking questions?’ Well think back to the last time you were stressing out with a million things running through your mind. The coaching process is like when you talk to a friend or write down the jumble of thoughts and ideas to get some clarity. It helps you to make sense of the thoughts that are chasing each other in circles. It provides a clear, motivating focus on a specific topic, then it helps you figure out how best to get there.

I highly recommend it. Obviously, I would say that. But in all honesty, I regularly take myself through the process to help me move forwards towards my ideals. And I’m about to fulfil a long time dream of travelling, so it can’t be too shabby.
